Herpes Simplex Virus Treatment

Unfortunately, mankind does not know the remedy to completely remove DNA-containing virus from the body and there is no treatment for genital herpes.

However, modern medicine disposes of wide range of remedies that inhibit the activity of herpes virus for 5 – 10 years and thus herpes symptoms would not show themselves all this time.

Though there is impossible to treat completely herpes, it is important to address the doctor when you observe first signs of the disease.

There are several cases for that:
  • the earlier herpes treatment is started the less chances it would turn into recurrent form. With right treatment of primary infection of herpes simplex virus there may be no recurrences and herpes may not show itself at all.
  • many cutaneous eruptions are alike among themselves. Therefore exists a risk to mistake signs of genital herpes with most virulent diseases such as syphilis.
  • timely and competent treatment of genital herpes would help to avoid complications that are more unpleasant and virulent.
  • genital herpes treatment is able to ease patient's condition, it helps to remove itching and other unpleasant symptoms and signs which disturb patient's normal mental and physical condition.
Two ways of herpes treatment:
1) usage of specific antiviral medications to inhibit virus activity.
2) improvement of immunity condition. Usage of immunomodulators increases several times the effectiveness of antiviral therapy and helps to forget about recurrences for a long time.

Besides medical treatment patient must care for personal hygiene, healthy diet and his sexual partner. Therefore during treatment it is necessary to refuse from sexual life and besides this, patient's partner should also undergo examinations and, if necessary, get treatment.

What Are the Dangers of Herpes Virus

Genital herpes is dangerous with its complications which more often occur in women – it is found in each forth women suffering from recurrent genital herpes. Genital herpes complications may be local affecting only genital area, but may be systemic affecting whole body.

Local complications in women are excessive dryness of mucosa of pudendums and formation of painful bloody fissures, damage of posterior labial commissure and mucosa of vaginal orifice.

Similar symptoms may appear not at once but in several years after onset of active herpetic process. They are not dangerous but they complicate woman's sexual life and bring unpleasant and painful sensations.

Besides genitalia area in herpetic process may be involved nervous system and complications here occur quite frequently. In patients may appear pains in underbelly and crotch, pains may spread to lumbar region and rectum. This pain syndrome in genital herpes is caused by the damage of particular nervous formations causing burning sensations in patient.

Frequent recurrences of genital herpes dramatically reduces the immunity of patient. This may result in activation of pathogenic bacterial flora (staphylococcus, colon bacterium) causing development of such diseases as bacterial urethritis, prostatitis and vesiculitis. It is quite difficult to treat these diseases in case of low immunity.

Most severe herpes complications are connected with so called herpes neonatorum which may cause child's death and steady neurological disorders. Herpes neonatorum occurs in case of fetus infection during pregnancy or baby infection during his passing through mother's birth canal.

Recently was proved the connection between genital herpes and appearing of cervical cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. Keep in mind that timely treatment of genital herpes excludes the probability of complications.

Cytomegalovirus Treatment And Prevention

When the virus enters the body it remains there forever, without showing itself. Today there exists no drugs that remove cytomegalovirus from the body. Virus doesn't threaten people with strong immune system.

Cytomegalovirus cannot show himself under conditions of normally functioning anti-infectious system. On this basis, there is no need to treat healthy people who have no cytomegalovirus symptoms.

In HIV infections and other immunodeficient diseases, when cytomegalovirus causes clinically significant symptoms, are used different anti-viral medications which do inhibit virus multiplication but, unfortunately, are not able to remove virus from the body.

Before planning pregnancy each woman with cytomegalovirus should go to the gynecologist and make blood test for detecting cytomegalovirus antibodies. If in her blood were found protective antibodies called immunoglobulin, then there is no need to fear and the woman may easily plan her pregnancy.  Antiviral drugs are not used during pregnancy because of their numerous side effects.

Prevention
In many laboratories are developed vaccines against cytomegalovirus. However, there no exists in the world a registered vaccine that prevents from primary infection and appearing of congenital  cytomegalovirus infection. Vaccination with depauperated strains of  cytomegalovirus is effectively used in medical centers in the USA and Europe in people with transplanted kidneys.

As you know, cytomegalovirus is transmitted via infected body liquids, therefore it is important to practice proper hygiene that includes frequent handwashing, avoiding mouth kissing and avoiding usage of foreign dishes and objects of personal hygiene. Women who work in conditions of high risks for cytomegalovirus infection must make laboratory tests before planning their pregnancy.

Cytomegalovirus Signs And Symptoms

Most people (95 – 98%) infected with cytomegalovirus via primary infection, show no signs, though some people may complain on symptoms similar to mononucleosis.

Cytomegalovirus symptoms include fever, sore throat, muscle pains, weakness and diarrhea. Sometimes do appear enanthesis, lymph nodes increase, naso-pharyngitis, increase of liver and spleen.

Blood tests may show low amount of thrombocytes, increased amount of lymphocytes and high rate of hepatic enzymes.

Cytomegalovirus presents danger for those with low immunity: people after organ transplantation, HIV carriers and people with cancer.

In those patients infection may show in form of severe inflammation of the lungs, kidneys, retina and gastrointestinal tract organs. Typically virus damages brain tissues which leads to  encephalopathy. Cytomegalovirus may show with inflammation of genito-urinary system.

In women this variant of disease course supposes development of inflammations in female genitalia such as cervical erosion (cervicitis),  inflammations in lining of the uterus (endometritis), vagina and ovaries.

In men cytomegalovirus infection courses as a rule without symptoms or may occur orchids (inflammation of testicles). In some cases occurs inflammation of urethra (ureteritis). Thus, in case of immunodeficiency disorder exists risk for inflammatory process spreading due to weakness of immunity which cannot fight the virus.

What Are the Dangers of Cytomegalovirus?

Cytomegalovirus presents a significant danger for people with diseases which reduce immunity system function. Today the most important issue is problem of compatibility of cytomegalovirus and HIV infection.

When immunity decreases (which often occurs in people with AIDS), cytomegalovirus may become so active that may damage all organs and systems in the body, and even cause development of oncological diseases.

Immunodeficiency disorders may appear after radiotherapy and chemotherapy in patients who used those treatments for their cancer, or after admission high doses of corticosteroids, or may result from immunoreduction therapy after organ transplantation.

Cytomegalovirus presents a true danger for pregnant women because cytomegaly may cause miscarriage or dead birth. In later terms, the disease may cause severe birth defects or disorders found after birth in a baby such as increased liver and spleen, hemorrhage in internal organs, symptoms of nervous system damage. Therefore, women who plan pregnancy should undergo tests on cytomegalovirus along with rubella, toxoplasmosis and herpes.

Types of Male Infertility

Male infertility is male inability to conceive a child during 12 months of regular tries without using contraception. Contrary to common belief, male infertility occurs as frequently as female infertility and is 35% of total number of infertility cases.

Types of male infertility
1) Obstruction
In this form the normal maturation of spermatozoids in testicles is not broken but there is a barrier on the way of spermatozoids movement from testicles in urethra. This may be caused by inherent absence or narrowing of a portion of seminiferous tubules, commissures left after inflammation, scar left after surgery, cyst, growth in genitalia or in near-by organs. Anatomical defects of penis (phimosis, penile curvature) may also cause obstructive infertility in males.

2) Secretory problem
In this form of infertility testicles cannot produce healthy spermatozoids in counts enough to fertilize ovule. Causes of this problem:
  • genetic factors
  • hormonal dysregulations
  • severe chronic diseases (diabetes)
  • past inflammatory diseases of genitalia (orchitis, parotitis, etc) including sexually transmitted diseases
Factors provoking disease:
  • protein deprivation
  • avitaminosis
  • testicles trauma
  • occupational hazards (ionizing radiation, high temperatures, contact with various toxins, etc)

3) Immunological problem
This form of infertility develops after testicles trauma. Normally, testicles tissues are separated from blood stream with a special barrier. When testicles traumas occur, this barrier may get damaged which may put into contact testicles tissues with blood immune cells. Body starts to accept testicles as foreign formation and as a result develops immune reaction with formation of antibodies against testicles tissues. Antibodies may be developed also against apermatozoids. Antisperm antibodies may block spermatogenesis, break sperm motility, prevent spermatozoids from entering cervical canal of uterus, aggravate fertilization, interrupt fission and even contribute to termination of early pregnancy.

Diagnosis
First stage of examination includes accurate history taking (past fertilizations and urological diseases). Must be performed spermogram analysis, detection of immunologic infertility factor.
